At the Panmen Scenic Area, there is a Song Dynasty-style building called "Suirui Hall." It is said that in the second year of the Yuanfeng era of the Northern Song Dynasty (1079 AD), a high monk named "Yuanzhao" gave a sermon at the Ruiguang Zen Temple, attended by five hundred followers who came to hear his teachings on Zen. His teachings were so profound that four auspicious signs appeared.

First, while Yuanzhao was giving his sermon, there was a pond opposite him where a thousand-year-old white turtle crawled ashore to listen. Remarkably, it was able to understand his teachings on Zen and was enlightened by Yuanzhao, becoming a thousand-year-old spiritual turtle. Therefore, the first sign is called "White Turtle Listening to Zen."

While Yuanzhao was giving his sermon, a Dharma drum in the temple, which no one was striking, suddenly sounded with a thunderous noise, as if it were thundering from the sky. Thus, the second sign is called "Dharma Drum Self-Sounding."

While Yuanzhao was giving his sermon, colorful rays of light appeared on the Ruiguang Pagoda. Therefore, the third sign is called "Pagoda Emitting Auspicious Light."

While Yuanzhao was giving his sermon, there was a dead bamboo tree beside the lectern that slowly burst into green and grew leaves, coming back to life. Therefore, the fourth sign is called "Dead Bamboo Bursting into Green."

All the followers felt it was particularly miraculous and unanimously believed that Yuanzhao was the incarnation of the Buddha. Since this temple had the incarnation of the Buddha and four auspicious signs appeared, it indicated that the temple was thriving and everything was auspicious and favorable. Therefore, they named this temple "Ruiguang Zen Temple" and referred to the pagoda in front as "Ruiguang Pagoda."
