Located in the southwest corner of the ancient city of Suzhou, Panmen Gate is now a national cultural relics protection unit and one of the World Heritage Sites of the Grand Canal of China, and is one of the main attractions of Panmen Scenic Area. The present Panmen Gate, including the two wings of the wall, was built successively during the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, and is the most complete part of Suzhou's ancient city walls and gates, while the Panmen Gate itself is the typical and unique curved land and water gate that exists in China.

The experts stationed at Panmen come from renowned heritage conservation design units and university researchers such as Suzhou Ji Cheng Institute of Heritage and Architectural Research and Design, Shuishi Institute of Traditional Architecture, Southeast University, Beijing University of Architecture and Soochow University, as well as international experts with top-notch wall restoration techniques and rich experience such as University of Florence, DiaCon Architects and GeoStudi Astier. team. During the exploration period, the team will use 3D point cloud laser scanning and mapping, photogrammetry, ground-penetrating radar scanning, 3D resistivity laminar imaging, pathological survey, tectonic survey and other technologies for data collection, which will provide accurate reference data for future conservation restoration.
