Ruiguang Pagoda

Ruiguang Pagoda

The Ruiguang Pagoda was built in the tenth year of the Chiu Wu era, constructed by Sun Quan, the Emperor of Eastern Wu, in gratitude to his mother. It is the earliest ancient pagoda in Suzhou, standing thirteen stories tall. The existing Ruiguang Pagoda was renovated in the year 1004 and still preserves the architectural style of the Tang and Song dynasties. Among the artifacts excavated from within the pagoda are a treasure stupa wooden box, Buddhist scriptures, stone Buddhas, and stone bases, among others. The pearl relic stupa is a national treasure and is currently housed in the Suzhou Museum, where it is the museum's prized possession.
